The Malaysia Hindu Sangam refers to the various press statements in a Tamil Daily carried in the last one week. The Central Council met last night on the matter and we are happy to report that all the issues have been amicably resolved. We are delighted to say that all the members MHS Central Council has pledged to work with Unity and Harmony in the interest of the Malaysian Hindu Community.

The meeting discussed the allegation in the press that there was an abuse of RM40,000.00 by the officials of the Malaysia Hindu Sangam WP Kuala LumpurCouncil in the year 2005. It must be categorically stated that there was no abuse on the usage of that money. This amount was withdrawn from the savings to settle outstanding payments due to creditors of Malaysia Hindu Sangam Kuala Lumpur and the rest was used for some on going activities.

The report submitted by a special investigation committee acknowledged that there was no misuse of any funds but was in fact an unfortunate case of mismanagement of the organizing of the Dinner on the part of the committee. The Central Council discussed in detail at 2 sittings on 24.01.09 and 14.02.09 and decided by majority vote that the 3 serving members of the Central Council were already punished in the year of 2006 with dismissal and therefore should not be punished a second time


Tightening of Financial Procedures
The Malaysia Hindu Sangam has grown from a small unit of few State Councils and Local (district) Councils to now 14 State Councils and 118 Local Councils. As it is our requirement to present combined annual report and accounts we have taken steps to tighten up the financial control with transparency. The President has been given the powers to send the national/state/local council auditors to make immediate investigation on any report made on irregularities at any level.


Press Statement
It was decided that all press statement must be made only by the President or the Hon.Gen. Secretary. As such the Central Council has the right to refer those members making statements bringing up their complaints against the Malaysia Hindu Sangam before bringing up the matter to the President shall be referred to the Disciplinary Committee for further action.


Call for United Effort
As President of Malaysia Hindu Sangam I call upon all members to be united for we have important tasks ahead of us. There are the temple issues, conversion issues, religious education programme, human rights issues, welfare programme and many other matters which have to be looked into at all levels.
